(Sunday Poetry Corner) We always expect reciprocity, and that has a name:
"selfishness." And love is the opposite of selfishness; love is
incompatible with selfishness. That’s why today I wanted to revisit this poem I
wrote… (I was going to say "many years ago," but the truth is, it’s
more accurate to say "many decades ago")… so long ago, and yet it
remains necessary to remember it.
I FOUND YOU
Your eyes are those nests
of the love I would desire,
your hands and your laughter
a reflection of the divine
love that gives us life.
And I behold your image
as one adores a god,
and it’s enough for me that love
and the words of before
live in my heart.
I love you sincerely,
and for you, I will fight;
I have the goal that yesterday
I sought tirelessly
until at last, I found you.
Loving you is enough for me.
of the love I would desire,
your hands and your laughter
a reflection of the divine
love that gives us life.
as one adores a god,
and it’s enough for me that love
and the words of before
live in my heart.
and for you, I will fight;
I have the goal that yesterday
I sought tirelessly
until at last, I found you.
