They are not proof of Time Travels

The so-called "objects out of their time," known in English as "OOPARTS" (Out Of Place Artifacts), are a reality (just as evidence of UFO visits—unidentified flying objects, as the acronym indicates—is real), but much like UFOs, OOPARTS are surrounded by falsehoods, making it very difficult to distinguish which ones are authentic and which have been manipulated.

One of the most well-known examples in Spain is the figure of an astronaut (see the image above) that appears on the Salamanca Cathedral. There’s no room for misinterpretation: that figure is indeed an astronaut. But does this mean that when the cathedral was built—between 1512 and 1733—someone saw an astronaut and depicted it as such? The answer is "no."

It turns out that, according to Spain’s Artistic Heritage Law, when an artistic monument is restored, evidence of the restoration must be left behind. That’s what happened in this case, where—by the way—they also sculpted a dragon eating an ice cream. Despite this, the example continues to circulate on the internet as if someone had actually traveled through time and seen an astronaut back in that era.

But this isn’t the only case. There are many others examples in Spain. For example (see the image on the left), at the San Antolín Cathedral in Palencia, there’s a photographer with a corresponding camera; at the Calahorra Cathedral in La Rioja, a mobile phone is sculpted in stone; or at the Santa María la Mayor Cathedral in Trujillo, Cáceres, there’s a shield of Athletic Bilbao because the restorer was a devoted fan of that football team.

Consequently, with both OOPARTS and UFOs, there’s a lot of truth but also a lot of deception (intentional or unintentional). Before giving credibility to a story, make sure to research it thoroughly rather than simply believing what you’re told.
